Has anyone tried (or considered trying) 5670 tubes with 5670->6922 adapters in an Audible Illusion M3A preamp and would comment on the outcome?
TIA.
Follow Ups:
As Triode Kingdom has already stated, bad idea. Many have had success with the 6N23P-EV or EB. Certainly an interesting variant that works in this circuit. Seems to be a popular choice among many A.I. owners.
Could have been. I've always read that the 6N23P was the most rugged of the 6922/6DJ8 family. Many had problems as the Modulus 3 seemed to run tubes rather hot. The average 6922 only lasted a short time, hence many switched to the more rugged 6N23P. This of course is just what I've read over the years, no direct experience myself.
Oops.... I do have a somewhat indirect experience. My long vacuum tube journey started in the late 80's with an Audible Illusions 2B. Bought used from the little AudioMart periodical that subscribers received every couple weeks. To say times have changed is putting it mildly.
Why wold anyone do this? The 5670 is WAY different than the 6922 in the most important characteristics, including Gm and plate curves. No Chinese adapter is going to remedy that.
