  I have two different versions of GE 5670, plus Tung Sol and Bendix versions of the 2C51 for use as the driver tube in a newer pair Bottlehead 2A3 Monoblocks.
  
  Lots of SS shunt regulation (second half of tube) plus active loading going on in these very nice sounding amps, so it's not surprising that I don't hear a LOT of difference between various version of this tube.
  
  Haven't tried the WE version though.

  I prefer and have we versions for a unit I used to have but kept the extra tubes

  Dave,
  I have a small amp that uses these tubes in the preamp section.
  
  By far the best tubes are the Czecholoslovakian Tesla 6CC42 from the 50s, 60s and early 70s.

  6H3P also known as 6N3P is the equivalent to the 5970, 2C51 and 396A tubes.

  Years ago I had a DAC that used a 5670 tube. My personal favorites were the Bendix 2C51, WE396A and GE 5 Star 5670.

    Thanks for your reply. The DAC maker had said don't swop tubes you can do some damage.
    
    I thought I had true equivelants and you have confirmed it. So I will go ahead and try th GE tubes.
