i am using 2c22, it is very similar to 6j5, transformer coupled. I really like it. Another one come to my mind is D3A triode strapped. Should be very good, too.
Follow Ups:
I've been messing around with line stages for 12 years or more, like most of us here. Very simple to use 2P29L or 112A in filament bias, no need for heatsinks. Rod Coleman filament regs from Lyrima.Simplest of all is the 6AH4. This is a really good sounding valve with an Rp of 1.8K and a mu of 8. Perfect.
If you like the 2C22, then even better is the CV6 aka CV1135. BUT NB!! the grid and anode top caps are reversed.

My preamp is a Thomas Mayer clone 6AH4. Transformer coupled, lots of noise filtering, and a excellent performer.

+1 on the 6ah4. It is an excellent linestage tube. The 6ah4 and the 12b4 are the (indirectly heated) tubes of choice for low-gain and low-output impedance applications.
