Has anyone done a comparison between these tubes ?
AN 4300b Vs re-issue WE 300b
AN 242E Vs Psvane II or ACME 211s.
Plan on using them in a Cary CAD 805AE.
Thank you in advance for any comments.
Follow Ups:
I worked for att and lucent technologies we reopened the western electric tube lab in 1990s in Pennsylvania using same equipment but they sold the tubes for 1000s but I got a few lol.
I tried the Psvane ACME 300B and it annihilated the WE 300B, Very unexpected!!
Broke down and bought the combo for my Cary CAD-805AE s.Started with (4) Sylvania JAN VT231s.Initially used a Chinese 300b and Psvane 211s.Upper bass was a little loose, but not terrible.Did everything well enough.
Upon introduction of the Audio Note tubes, the bass looseness was completely nixed.Better harmonic renderings and better linearity.Focus and stage dimensions were more clearly delineated.
After listening,I ordered a second set.I decided that I didn't wish to be without these in my amplifiers.
Not cheap, but not absurd in comparison to the WE re-issue 300b.s.I can confidently recommend either tube, unless you are looking for added color.I find them very natural, detailed w/o fatigue and open/dimensional without the added mid bass over-fullness.
4242E:$1550/matched pair
4300E :$1750 /MP
