Are these tubes that much better than the Sovtek 6H30Pi and EH 6H30Pi Gold Pins that they justify the very high prices for them? I check them out occasionally and the prices being asked for them are downright scary. I have a BAT cd player that uses these tubes. Presently I have the Sovteks in it and I can't say that I'm displeased with them, far from it. I toy with the idea of getting a quad of the Reflektors from time to time but then common sense wins out.
Follow Ups:
I see significant difference between the current production DR tubes and the NOS kind. The old ones are generally far more reliable, have lower microphonics, noise and grid leakage, on top of their better sound. Whether that justifies their higher price is everyone's individual decision.
The same applies to ebay sellers - caviat emptor, and carefully check their feedbacks.
I had a somewhat limited, several months experience trying the DRs in the power supply of an ARC REF 40 line stage years ago. I would say they sounded different, but not necessarily better in that location. I read a similar impression by an audio reviewer who came to the same conclusion with a different piece of equipment. If they were better, I would have bought more as they were expensive, but not like now. Or, maybe my conclusion was just wishful thinking?!!There was also an issue identified several years ago with fake tubes that were really not DR's. A website sponsored by a Greek Audio Club had several pictures on how to identify an authentic DR versus the standard tube. Not exactly something you want to deal with at current prices and these things don't grow on trees....
If your 6H30's are used in a balanced circuit, I would at least try to make sure they are matched for iP and Gm.

I just can't convince myself to pull the trigger on them. Over $400 a pair on EBay and maybe they're real or maybe they're fakes? The ones for sale on EBay are mostly in Eastern Europe and that's damn risky by itself. If you get a fake pair/quad what's your recourse? You're screwed. I ran across a used pair here in the States for $250 which is still very expensive. I'd still have to buy another pair to have a quad for my BAT VK-D5SE player. That would be a minimum $650 for a quad of tubes. IMHO that's just crazy.
Victor Khomenko is a regular inmate here. Try a ping.
Not just every one grows up in a family who worked in tube manufacturing!
Back when I had equipment that used the 6H30 tube, I tried the "DR" tubes and found them to sound remarkably better than the normal 6H30 tube.
Of course they weren't as much money as they are now, but it was worth it to me...at the time.
Good Luck.
