Amperex BB EL84 - Circular mica slice purpose?

While inspecting and testing a bunch of EL84s, I noticed this feature on an Amperex. I then checked another Amperex and it has the same thing in the same locations.

Circular mica slices. What might these be here for?

  Arrows pointing to mica pieces. One piece has split and is now resting in two places.
