I would still wish an easy idle point adjustment. Say for using a 12AY7 in place of a 12AX7. Small cathode R change to adjust the idle point. Same vs adjusted check... :)

My current amps have a trimpot as the cathode resistor for just that reason. :^)
Trim pot, I'll assume wire wound.

No, just cermet. It's bypassed, so I figure any sonic difference is greatly reduced. Possibly not as long-lived, though.
The first linestage I built eventually got converted to run a pair of 12B4's. These were run with what looked like not enough cathode bias( most of the B+ dropped across the plate loads ). Dropping in 12A4's resulted in about the opposite.
I was quite surprised how well both worked in that circuit.
