Who praised it? Did they make measurements? I'm just asking because lots of people praised the headphone amp too, but bench testing showed it was garbage. Probably easier to make a phono pre, but I still wouldn't rely on this company's designs without independent verification.

Is it the EAR HP4 or is it the Rega EAR headphone amp you speak of?
Given Tim was a measurements guy and didn't believe in listening over measurements and also given his track record and wide experience, it seems a little at odds.
Hence the question.

A close friend/tech had an Audio Research amp that he claimed measured horribly. But he told me it sounded great. I don't always go by measurements. I listen!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My ears aren't someone elses.
The inadequacy of hearing doesn't justify poor design. The headphone amps were garbage, and this might be too. Measure first, then listen. No sense wasting time on defective products.
So you trust your ears?
You really shouldn't.

"Still Working the Problem"
This is the third of this phono stage I have made and one other less extensive kit. All sound extremely good and those which have my builds always offer great comments about sound quality. A Stereophile reviewer used his EAR834p phono stage for many years as his reference. Admittedly a DIY kit build may sound different but it is the same design. With my Rega P3 with 330 arm and Garrett P77i cartridge I could not ask for my from my vinyl setup with this kit in place.
