Say Doug,
Do you really think/ believe Heyboer can wind that Peerless 265 or 270 Q and meet spec? Mike from Magnequest mentioned to me that if he could... it would be his swansong.

But of course.
There are many of the 265's running around by now. I have a pair of 271's together on a 26HU5 amp.
I did not have the two side by side for long, and was not particularly interested in the results of some sort of specs pizzing contest. Leakage L value, as noted by the shorted secondary, self resonance was, within my capabilities to measure equal for both models.
When I had the first several S265's made the price was Fab...and all those posts disappeared for some reason. I even gave the first pair away to a Chinese company along with the winding card... :) with the requirement he distribute it( the winding card) if anybody requested.
The 271's were substantially more complex and expensive. And un-clone-able thanks to no Ni in that size. For some reason Mike listed a Ni-deleted version as an improvement. I never did figure out that reasoning. Something was no doubt improved by building it with just steel.
I do not think they have the 270...if they do, it was not from me. Just off the top ov my head that was the line output variant of the 265, yes?

Friend, I would not hurt thee for the world...but thou art standing where I am about to shoot.
I believe secondary should be operated balanced to ground is the only difference am aware of.

Errr...I don't think so. The S270 is a line out, in the same can, with the same primary load as the 265. The 271 is next size up, 20-20 Plus, and can only be operated CT-grounded in 16 or 4R connections. its '8R' is by ratio actually 9...
The catalog does say effectively, same as the 265...but note the values associated with its secondary. And yes, it does say 'CT grounded'...

No worries...if you'd care to examine two other similar models, the 256 amd 258, you may find it entertaining. One with a 1, 4, 9 and 16 secondary, the other with a 2, 4, 8 and 16 secondary. Same can, same primary loading of 5kOhm. For sure the 258 having a stripe of 50% Ni lams in it( thanks to an x-ray photo ).

That 268 flat got my attention, monster iron say I. Am willing to bet rare AND and difficult to find. Have a pair of 12k Acrosound 290's and a pair of Sowter 5k single ended that weigh 16 lbs and may be enough to drive KT 150's to their limit SE ... but have always held high regard for Peerless when I played around with several W5's years ago. Was duly impressed with BOTH types.
Am aware you prefer P/P class A using e-linear feedback. Hopefully... when I retire end of year; will be able to spend more time with this monkey business... the iron is umm, like bananas.

A good Iron collection is good to have. Last pair of amps I built running big sweeps used S271's...Their winding was significantly more complex than the S265 and by a non-trivial margin.
I had some issue with the front end pentodes using nearly no screen current. Data sheet of sufficient detail was not available. These were vertical amps, and in that service run as pentodes. I think I should get some more of them. They'd do quite well as a power tube as well... :)
