Very like me to misread the data sheet, if that's the case. I probably was reading Vhk on my cell phone without my reading glasses, but is the 400V per section? Seems high.

It is high; most tubes are rated for 300v maximum. But a few are higher - for example, a 6SN7GTA is rated at 450v.
