has anybody ever seen one of these?
Thanks, that was fun.
As for myself, I prefer the more natural Jamaican herb blends!
Nice one! Thanks for posting that.
In their day, RCA was always ahead of the curve. From consumer to broadcast. Some of us remember the venerable TK 76 AND SELECTAVISION, now that could have been a very credible audio format.
So this is what the old cassette tape format used to look like. I wonder what ever came of this format. I've never seen one of these, but reel to reel sure stuck around.
the crazy thing about these is... I was in the Record business for many years, from 1971 forward as a marketing rep for a major label. I had never heard of, or let alone seen one of these until today. Go figure
4 track, 8 track, R2R, cassette's, etc.
Hi, toobhead:
I seem to recall that I once saw one of these machines at a rummage sale, along with a stack of cassettes meant for it.
However, if it was required that you purchase this product as a dedicated stereophonic system, that left little opportunity in the way of customizing a system, beyond putting out even more cabinets.
I am going to guess that this product was purportedly introduced around 1959-60. Another guess on my part is that RCA must have met with some obvious opposition in marketing the product, since it may not have been successful in licensing other recording companies to manufacture software for it.
I do not seem to recall any mention of the actual cost of the cassettes, either.
Or...maybe it was just a very poorly executed design? Remember Sony's "El-Cassette"? It also died an early death.
That uTube site has quite a few interesting and oddball short demo films, doesn't it!

I think Richard has the dates just about right. I have a Harrison stereo tape catalog from Spring 1959 which list about a page an a half of titles, all from RCA. Catalogs from 1958 don't list any of these tape cartridges. Original prices were $4.95, $6.95, $8.95, and $9.95, depending on the length of the tape.
I have seen a number of these tape cartridges on eBay, always from RCA. I don't think any other company supported the format. I'm guessing that by 1960 they were gone.
