7 minutes of good laugh.
Follow Ups:
"Secure the washer or else your tape can then fly off" Is there a 650 ips setting on the Nagra? I'd bet she'd say record clamps are for the same thing.
"The blank tape" i.e. The take-up reel
"Made by Scotch, the same company which creates normal sticky tape today" 3M will be happy to know they're now listed as the Scotch company on Nasdaq. The damn spool she's holding says "Made by 3M" right on it.
"Past the three barrels" . I guess calling them "heads" was somehow too sexist for her. Update: It got better when she called them the "Giving and receiving head" Oh baby!
I had to stop there, but I'm sure there's more gems waiting for me. Today everyone's got a video camera, so it's fair game on youtube. I've watched my share of auto or home repair videos, trying to learn how to do something. Some are great, but there's also a lot of of barely informed things out there, like, "You pick up this thing, and..." Umm, you mean a screwdriver?
Thanks Victor
...and pretty hands. If you want to see something truly bizarre, watch that one. And let me know how it ends, as I bailed out after several minutes.
I was willing to watch her video far longer than his, for the reasons you mentioned. As Joni Mitchell said in one of her songs, "Sex sells everything".
The images above are all I could think of when I started watching the guy's video. That, and my mind briefly saw a Dahlquist DQ-10 behind him, which quickly turned into the flat screen TV that it was.
In his video, I got as far as, "It has spools, which I like a lot better than tapes" before I left.
My comments could be perceived as elitist, or trying to come across as an expert, but the truth is I haven't used a reel to reel recorder since I was about 14. But God, if you're making one of these videos, at least learn the basic terminology, especially with a machine as fine as a Nagra, before you expose your ignorance to the world.
Similarly, since you've mentioned one of your other hobbies on the Asylum before, you may be able to identify with this. I was watching an old "Cops" re-run on TV the other night. The officer disarmed a guy, showed the Glock to the camera, and said, "He had one in the chamber, and a full clip ". Sheesh!
But there is whole lot more - I summoned all my strength and watched it to the end - do it, there is wealth of stuff there!
Things like "This is 7.5, which I believe is about seven and a half".
But Mari walked away with my heart, I am thinking of subscribing to her channel - I really wonder what other technical miracles she might be familiar with. :)
That "clip" thing is all too common, but far from the worst - what really pisses me off is some guy clicking several times on an empty Glock.
Only $2.98 per minute.
She really does have a very nice voice, and hopefully you'll find other videos of hers which soothe and entertain you just as well as her Nagra coverage.
I expect hearing "clip" from the thugs, but this was a police officer, and I simply thought she'd have known better.
Have you ever seen this?

Ha! That was great!I'm pretty sure that anyone who has a Nagra already knows more than her about tape recorders!
(Lovely job of threading it!)
You should post this over at Tapeheads.net.
