You can make a digital recording sound like analog tape by using a digital recorder to copy analog tape. I have a number of hi-rez 24/192 digital copies of high-speed analog tape and they sound absolutely awesome. They exhibit no digital artifacts at all, but sound identical to analog tape. They actually sound noticeably better than digital copies of vinyl.

hmm, that is interesting. Seems counter-intuitive to me. I will give it a try.
I can see how it would be helpful to digitally dub to copy if a tape or your tape deck is fragile and in danger of deteriorating.
But I would not have expected such a dub to have as good a sound as the original tape.

There must be something wrong with me for not having something wrong.

  If you have a good digital recorder, you can copy vinyl records and your digital copies should sound just like vinyl. I have many, many digital copies of vinyl records and they sound just like vinyl to me.
  
  I used to use an Alesis Masterlink digital recorder and about five years ago I upgraded to a TASCAM DA-3000 DSD recorder. Now, I make DSD copies of vinyl and they seem to sound even better than PCM copies. I probably have around 400 digital copies of vinyl albums all together.

    I'll have to try that. I know my digital cassette makes great copies of cd's, but I have yet to try it on vinyl. Though it seems that would be going backwards. Sure would be handy though.

      Try it and see what you think! Even if your digital copies don't sound exactly identical to vinyl records, they should have that smooth analog sound quality and be just as enjoyable to listen to as vinyl.
