BASF CEII Chrome Extra (I dont have any experience with this brand)
Sony UX (tried a couple and I like them)
Maxell XLII (an older version but looks in really good shape)

  How do they compare to Maxell and TDK? I only became aware of that brand from looking on EBay.

    I don't know - which is to say I don't have any of Maxell or TDK's finest type IVs to compare at this time (they're truly expensive these days).
    It should be noted that these are type IIs with additional processing to combine the features of both types. So you need a deck which can be calibrated to suit. They are deeply impressive in their own right (used in my Tandberg TCD-440A), combining the brilliance of metal with the clean presentation of chrome, and are lovely to handle / built well with low mechanical noise and chatter. I may get some more.
