Everybody's over at Tapeheads.

Ah yes. My legacy to the world.
Such I shame I never have been and probably never will be credited for having the insight and vision to create that group.
Not true Matt. Those that know (like myself) give you credit. I remember when TH was launched back 2008. You are responsible for putting me over the edge to jump in the R2R pond. And a few other things too. It all Just seems like yesterday.

LOL. That's news to me. I was already alerted to the upcoming 10th anniversary of the site. I'm guessing that as we get closer, its first five will be either:A: Whitewashed and scrubbed out completely.
B: Kept to a bare bones, one or two sentences minimum.
C: Outright fabricated and re-written completely.

The Winter 2016 Acoustic Sounds catalog says "Simple reasons make tape the Next Big Thing in high-end audio. Tape offers greater dynamic range, especially at the frequency extremes... [and] Tape requires minimal signal processing."
Yeah, they were over at Tapeheads when Tape Trail started -- I know because I was one of the people who encouraged Tape Trail to GET started. I figured there had to be enough interest here to sustain it. Obviously I was wrong.
The irony is that reel to reel tape is -- or can be -- the best SOUNDING medium/format there is today, assuming you're willing to put up with its admittedly extensive downsides. Is that recognized at Tapeheads? I haven't been there recently.
IMHO, the downsides are not enough to discourage people, even some will spend a fortune fixing up a technically inferior deck.
Proudly serving content-free posts since 1984.
That suggests one of the downsides -- finding a tech who knows his way around a tape deck :-)
