Got one today for a song, ($300)at a recycling center who advertised it on Craigslist. Good shape, a little dusty.
What a tank, very impressed with the build quality. probably 80% of a pro deck.

I have a Technics 1520 deck which has burned out bulbs in the VU meters. I have gently looked around and don't see an obvious way to replace these bulbs. A seller oneBay lists the bulbs but does not offer instructions. I hope someone reading this will know how to replace these bulbs.

Thanks, I love it even more and am even happier for you.
Fantastic score.
I believe that is the deck that the tape project modifies to play back their killer 30ips master tapes.
No matter as that would be sweet as is and if modified would very probably be at the pinnacle of a consumer deck.
Have Fun!
Which tapes are 30 ips? Everything I've seen is 15, which is better for most music, given the low-freq head bump issues many decks have at 30.

Thank you for the kind words, perhaps you might find one someday also. I've also heard that the tape project mods these. I think that this deck is as good as I will ever have. One thing that amazes me is the capstan motor. In case you don't know, it is basically the same motor system as the famous Technics record players, (SP10?) and has a huge flywheel and of course direct drive. Oh, and stock it tops out at 15 but not 30, maybe they mod it for 30.

Congratulations. Those are great decks, and deserve to be restored to top notch operating condition.
I used to have one of those, the only thing I didn't like was that the output level wasn't independent of the meters.
Regards,
Mike.
I agree, I'm going to see if I can correct that

Is there anyone in the Chicago or the Midwest anyone would recommend refurbishing this deck without costing a a mortgage payment or two! I just pulled mine out and am enjoying it on a great Sunday afternoon!
