First, thanks for the offer, but let someone else have a crack at it.
Second, would you check the plate on the back and see if it says "MX5050 BII2." There were a lot of MX5050 decks and I want to be sure it's the same one as mine. This one is probably the most common of all, but not the newest.
Third, have you tried "exercising" the pinch roller -- push it down from the top, repeatedly -- to see what happens. Its action is not supposed to be lubricated, but maybe there's something in there -- i.e., old dried grease --that will respond to this. If it doesn't pop right back up when you push it down, its time for a trip to the service tech, You, maybe?
You do need the manual.

I looked and I think it is a BL2 it definitely had an L sticker on top of something or it was a BLII2. It is all balanced ins and outs.
I'll probably take it apart this week and see whats what. That pinch roller is bound in some way.

I wonder what the L stands for, AFAIK, all Otari decks have balanced ins/outs. They're wired pin 3 hot, BTW, so you have to accommodate that if you don't want polarity issues.
When you say the pinch roller is bound, do you mean it doesn't revolve? If so, removing it and checking for more old grease is a good idea. The pinch roller shaft is not to be lubed, sez Otari; the only thing requiring light oil is the the felt collar around the capstan.
It is a B2LD as you can see. I peeled off the L and it had an H underneath. Clearly the L was factory installed. Thanks for all your help!

That's an earlier model than mind. I Googled it and found a manual (link). Great looking heads, BTW.
Thanks again for all your help!

I'll verify the model but I do remember an "L" sticker on there. I'll take a photo. No, the pinch roller spins but it does not move down and engage with the capstan. When you try and push it downward toward the capstan it really doesn't want to move. I'll probably take it apart tomorrow since it's going to rain.
