Great Mouser story

No doubt most of us here have ordered from Mouser. I wanted to tell a positive story that happened to me earlier this week. I ordered a number of transistors from them, expecting that a few would be outside my desired tolerance. Quite normal. But one came in well below the manufacturer's minimum gain, and another was well below the others, although within manufacturer spec. One email to Mouser resulted in 2 new parts being sent to me free of charge. I offered to return the bad parts to them, but they felt there was no need for me to do that. That is true customer service.

Sometimes, ebay and other sites may offer what seems to be deals. But if you factor in potential counterfieting, factory seconds, failure rates and customer service, you may end up paying far more than what you would pay Mouser to get it right the first time. Or Mouser will make it right for you. As a side note, I placed another order with Mouser today. They will now be my #1 choice for buying parts.

I just wanted to pass on a positive experience since we only tend to hear about the bad ones these days.

DITTO on that!!!!!!!!!! Been using them since the catalog was about the size of magazine, it's now well over an inch thick closer to two inches as I look at it. It was really great when they added ON Semi to their list a few years back. They also have the Sprague TVA capacitors, great for tube gear. And Mr.Curcio's seems to be favorite Xicon! All of my old Curcio kits have Mouser #s. Never ever have had one problem that I didn't create (ordered wrong stuff) or they didn't fix, if and when it was their fault, can't remember any at the moment. No worries about fakes either.

    I've had very good luck and good customer service from Mouser, too. Also with Digi-Key.
    
    And there was an occasion I ordered an RCA jack from Parts Express and they sent me a 10 uF 35 vdc electrolytic. I dropped them an email and they mailed out the proper jack immediately.
    
    And I have to also say, it's really great to have a handy Radio Shack nearby where you can go and get a 2 amp fuse or a 150 ohm resistor etc in a pinch. I'd hate it if Radio Shack vanished.
    
    I miss the hobbyist electronics stores that used to be found in bigger cities, like Chicago where I live. There's really no bricks-and-mortar place here where you can even go to get a shortwave radio or an oscilloscope etc any more. (But there are places in Chicago, like Triode Electronics, where you can get a 12AX7 or a pair of EL34's.)

      They're a general electronics and appliance department store with some selection of parts, too. They have a moderate selection of resistors, fuses, capacitors, etc.

        There's Amateur Electronic Supply, with stores in Milwaukee, Cleveland, Orlando and Las Vegas- they have brick/mortar stores, sell osciloscopes and shortwave radios (no audio gear really though) http://www.aesham.com/
        
        If you need belts for your cassette, open reel or turntable, there's PROJECTOR RECORDER BELT CO., they can get you a belt for almost anything. (They are now part of RUSSELL INDUSTRIES) http://russellind.com/client/download/prb_line.pdf
        
        I've had good luck with Mouser, and Digi-Key also. Newark has also been pretty good for me. Even Allied has been found to have stuff that others do not.
        
        AND- YES!- THERE ARE FAKE TRANSISTORS BEING SOLD ON EBAY!!!!!! I bought some. KA-POOOF! Gilmore's corollary to Murphy's Law: the eBay transistor you saved $5 on will turn out to be a fake and take $500 worth of other hard-to-source semiconductors with it when it shorts.
