Why they took away the old code is a question I'd like to see answered. Apparently, the motivation is to support phones that don't support flash, e.g. iPhones.
Their method using iframes is a security problem as it opens the barn door wide open to malicious code. We'll look at it next week and see if we can find a way to allow it and also maintain security.

I attemped to write youtube and ask why they dropped the "use old embed code" feature, but had no luck.
Thanks again for seeing what can be done.
Believe me, I was for this too. However security first. It it were me doing the coding, hosting, and I was the sysop and I thought it was a risk I wouldn't take it.
We can still link to YouTube without issue.
This is the glorious phasing out of flash, that was so important to Apple and Google. Google with their WEBM codec and Apple with H264.
I had my Unix guru friend over the other day, he maintains FreeBSD, Solaris, and Linux systems as his job, he was impressed with this BBS. Good work Rod, we appreciate it.
Well, you Unix guru has good taste.
FreeBSD, Mason and mod_perl are tried and true and secure.
We know how to fix the problem. It will take another week or so to do it right. It's a huge code base and you want to be sure it's robust and maintainable.

that's great to hear.
And we didn't have to do a thing.
Apparently, Google got a ton of complaints and put the old embed code back on the site.

that you are working on it. As a serial UTube poster I am happy that I will be able to continue my nasty habit!! Thanks.
