Can anybody tell me if the older AR15s - I'm guessing there are newer versions based on web searches - are sealed or vented? This would be from the 70s...thanks!
AR (Villchur et al.) invented acoustic suspension (high compliance woofer in a small-ish, sealed box). The AR-15 is from the Teledyne era, but like all the speakers in its line was sealed. They all sounded good, too... from the top-line AR-10pi to the entry-level AR-18.
I've a pair of AR-14's in the basement (actually three of them, but that's a story for another day). These were also two-ways.
an "early" AR-14

(note the Peerless KO10DT silk dome tweeter with a funny mounting plate)
a "normal" AR-14

You can read all about the whole line in a brochure available at the link below (which doesn't actually seem to be working right this second).
Just for grins, since I have it at Photobucket, here's the brochure blurb on the little AR-18 (one of the best bang for buck speakers of its day, IMO)

all the best,

The AR-15 is gas operated. A gas tube runs under the front sight base. So, you might say it's vented. I hope that answers your question.
You can be held up with one of those things!!!!
I've never owned anything like that; with nearly 30 years passing, does that mechnism tend to hold up?
They were sealed. I used to own a pair and enjoyed them very much. I wish i never sold them since they have become part of the AR family of classic speakers. I would re foam the woofers and keep them.
