I can see only few Bitheads on e-bay and shipping listed on all of them is $10 more or less?!?
$45 is unreasonable shipping + handling for such small item weather USPS, DedEx, or UPS. You can and should report it to e-Bay, if true.
e-Bay does not like inflated shipping as that cuts their proffit.
(Unless they offered let say FedEx shipping and YOU requested to be sent USPS, which they usually do not do. Then they can ask for extra work.)
Follow Ups:
They wanted 45$ for shipping,no matter who shipped, but what irked me most-their false contention that shipping weight was 5-6- lbs.,when in fact it is about one fifth of that or less.
I thought you are talking US.
What do you expect?
Cheapest package shipping in US for over $100 value with insurance would be over $10.
For international $45 is very reasonable.
I sent twice some small items abroad and never again, just filling custom forms is pain.
And cheapest shipping several years ago for phono cartridge to Europe with insurance on $150 was about $35. Took forever.
I really don't think it's that unreasonable. A quick look at the US Post Office website shows the cheapest international option is a medium sized flat rate box with posted cost of $43. I ship a lot and it doesn't sound that bad to me for a trip to the other side of the planet. And he didn't mention if there are any duties or fees involved.
Heck, it costs me $10 to send a ground package of that size domestically on my account.
It's certainly not out of line far enough to make public accusations.
Why don't you contact them directly to make your purchase, then go to the UPS/Fedex website and arrange your own freight. I believe you can pay with a credit card and email a label to them for shipping.
