I can tell you as fact that he bought tubes from Kevin Deal (not the opther way around) and Kevin treated him unethically, and lied.
What happened with Deal is that R.H. bought some tubes from him and explicitly told him to show a customs value as $10, to avoid duties and taxes. Deal ignored that and shipped some pricey tubes declaring full value, and that incurred a whack of customs and duties. No problem if Deal had said up front "I don't do that, if you want them, it's declaring full value' but he just ignored the customer, took the sale, and never told the customer or gave him the choice of declining the purchase. Unethical. Dishonest. And I can also tell you he has never had any contact with or knowledge of "JNS".
A lot of bullshit goes around online. He had a pair of spaekaers up on Audiogon, and I recall hiom telling me that some total douche wanted to buy them, and called him on a Thursday begging him to drive than across the border and meet up with him (the Agon listing said local pickup only) and the next day, as he was getting ready to take off on a business trip to NYC, begged him to actually take the speakers with him on the plane and check them into cargo! Then this loser goes omn some internet site to slag him for not wanting to do that. The guy is actually a very senior marketing executive and simply dropped online chat becuase he didn't have time with newborn kids and a demanding business schedule. He never was a tube dealer, just a hobbyist, and got tired of the losers he was dealing with.
He pretty much, along with Paul Knutson, wrote the book on 6SN7's in the 90's, and these wanabees don't even know what he's forgotten.
He's local and he does pop up from time to time now that his kids are older.
Follow Ups:
Hutton, you lying scammer. You've been banned here repeatedly. Now you're back and posting a lot apparently, under yet ANOTHER moniker.Astralnavigator = Robert Hutton. Clear as day. (Thanks to who pointed this out to me, I've notified the moderators so we'll see Astralnavigator disappear soon I think.).
For the record, here's the details:
Check the IP address of Astralnavigator's page on AA:
http://cgi.audioasylum.com/cgi/mail.mpl?user_ID=52819
Now look up that IP at Arin:Search ARIN WHOIS for: 174.90.33.226
Bell Canada BELLCANADA-19 (NET-174-88-0-0-1)
174.88.0.0 - 174.95.255.255
Pollara POL20100225-CA (NET-174-90-33-224-1)
174.90.33.224 - 174.90.33.255It's well known that Pollara is where Hutton works (he threatened to sue AA multiple times, one time was when he was denying this is where he worked... threads here on AA were showing up in google which scared him)
Pollara.com - go to "about" - he's listed there of course.
Now check his blog:

Where he clearly mentions posting on AA, and where on his blog he's identified himself as hutton
Here's the relevant AA post:

I think that's a pretty open and shut case.
Here's what will likely happen now: hutton will deny the above. Then he'll threaten Rod and AA. Rod, being a nice guy and not wanting to take any of hutton's grief will push back but when push comes to shove, he doesn't want the hassle, so this thread will disappear.
Rod, apologies in advance for stirring up this (again!) but I can't stand hutton being here, masquerading as someone else, and sock-puppet defending himself, even after he's been booted from here multiple times.
-Ed Sawyer
If true (and it certainly looks like it), that is f'ing comedy gold.
He ripped me off. He ripped Ed Sawyer off. He ripped off a lot of his buyers in ebay according to his feedbacks. He ripped off a lot of other people in Audiogon. At best, you're defending a thief. I don't care how much information he provided on 6SN7s (the quality of some of this information is open to debate). Nothing will change the fact that he's a proven con artist and a wackjob.
As for avoiding duties and taxes, that is illegal and unethical.
Perhaps.
Doesnt it bother you that he tried to avoid duties. I love the way you and some of your countrymen try to lecture us on the Water Cooler about the humanity of your healthcare system only to give someone a pass on bilking the system. Pretty much a validation of some of our main concerns about this system and these programs it appears. I agree that if Deal didnt comply to this request he should have notified Hutton. Of course he doesnt know me.....I dont go around introducing myself as JNS. I may have sold him some tubes some time back and if I did I had no problems.
Man is this paragraph lame. Perhaps the speaker story is true. But I will tell you this. If 2 out of 10 say you are a crook then perhaps this can be dismissed. When you get almost universal agreement about a seller being a crook and also within a relatively short and isolated period of time then you should take notice to what the online "losers" say.
So what? This gives him the right to lie, cheat and steal! Is his epitath to be: "pretty much wrote the book on 6SN7s in the 90s". I think he will be remembered for other not so flattering things. I will just have to take your word that the rest of us wannabes dont have a clue.
He is indeed fortunate to have a defender like you. As far as I'm concerned, after your mountain of evidence, this case is closed.
"I may have sold him some tubes some time back and if I did I had no problems."
Curious. You have may or may not have sold him something, yet jump into a thread calling someone a crook and a liar. You also say you had no problems. That is hardly universal condemnation!
Can you read? I jump into a thread calling someone a crook and a liar because I know people that he has ripped off. I also know some of the people in this group that are not quick to condemn without first hand experience.
I guess your conversation with Hutton went something like this:
Anavigator: "Robert are you a thief, liar and crook"?
Hutton: "No".
Anavtigator: "OK".
As Len says your attempts to defend this knob are making you look really bad. Doesnt it seem strange to you that Hutton was a very signifcant contributor on this forum and then he just drops off the face of the earth after news of all his midemeanors surface?
n/t
WHATS N/T MEEN?
:)
Come on. Practice a little intellectual honesty and read the thread I linked and check out his ebay feedbacks. Do a search in AA. He's ripped off A LOT of people. The more you defend this crook, the worse you look. Just because you have known him in real life is not a good reason to continually defend him. Just because Robert posted useful information about tubes does not absolve him of his crimes. Your justifications are appalling to me.
dont you think avoiding taxes is unethical ?? the guy who asked to avoid the taxes is the unethical one :) john
Whether or not avoiding duties is unethical, when a buyer request it, the seller should either tell him 'I can't do that' and give the buyer the option to not buy, or just not take the order. But just to ship without telling the customer is to me unethical.
I agree. At least half of my Canadian clients ask me to falsify values to avoid duties and taxes. I dont comply with this request.
