Ever think the aftermarket crossover was the problem? Crites is a crossover 'factory' and sells a lot of sizzle and who knows how much bacon?
Me? I have yet ot migrate up north for a listen to the Klipsch. I may HATE them, in which case I forget my whole idea for now...and 'back to the drawing board' for some further research.
I would still like to pursue the idea of a high sensitivity speaker.
I'ce owned panels since the early 80s....Going on 40 years using all my fingers and toes, twice!
Too much is never enough
Follow Ups:
It's possible, but I kind of doubt it since I installed the crossovers myself. IIRC, I quickly tired of the sound of the Choruses and thought that a crossover upgrade might fix the problem.
I've had a pair of MMGS and four sets of stats so I'm very well acquainted with the sound of panels. I like the holographic soundstage, but as you've noted they like power. Even the VACs on the CLS IIZs were just barely enough at 100 wpch in ultralinear mode. Others besides myself and (potentially) you have made the transition from planars to horns, so it seems to be a fairly common path. If you're able to find the right speakers I'd be amazed if you were unhappy, although they may or may not be Klipsch.
That Torii amp really intrigued me. I was nearly ready to drive to the Decware factory to check it out, but then I ran across the Antares and the rest is history.
With the low power you best own 95dB sensitive speakers. If lower sensitivity, SE 300B tube amplifier is your best bet.
Decwars site has an 'amp selection' sort-of guide.
Basically power V sensitivity V expected loudness......
If they did the chart the SAME all the way thru? Should at least be relateable to wherever YOU happen to be on 'the spectrum'....
Part of it hinges on being able to 'clock' the sensitivity of the speaker in question to 'real'.
Klipsch, according to Stereiphile is a little optimistic, so using the Decware chart, I'll substract 3db to 4db from whatever Klipsch lists.....
Too much is never enough
