In 1993, because grunge had taken over, MTV didn't feel the need to air so many videos. But one which MTV did slip in, alongside grunge, was the Manic Street Preachers' "From Despair To Where." And once you got past the audiophiles, you learned that San Franciscans liked the sorta-alt, sorta-grunge "From Despair To Where."

In the late-90s, I worked in San Francisco's Financial District. When I'd make my way to Market Street, I'd often see Frank Chu. He donned the shades, hobbled, and held a sign.
In 2004, I temporarily lived in Oakland's Chinatown. One morning, as I walked to 12th Street City Center station, a disheveled Frank Chu was hastily throwing on the sport coat. His sign was in pieces. And he ran perfectly normal, no limp whatsoever!
