You can use Audacity (a free download) to do spectrum analysis of a hi-res digital file. You can take a look at the ultrasonic content of a hi-res digital download and you might know someone who makes hi-res needle-drops. These could guide you before you spend time and money.
Follow Ups:
If you are just trying to get a 'feel' for how much ultrasonic energy exists in music releases have a look at Hi-Fi News' Hi-Res reviews, which contain spectral plots. I do not know the difference between the red and blue lines - probably different averaging - but you can see in all cases the amplitude rolls off steadily so ultrasonic content is small.

Thanks for the tips and especially for the lifeline into the present century. I will check it all out starting with the reviews and the audio performance of my PC. I have a lot of catching up to do.

Tom
Dark energy? Ridiculous!
We live in an electric universe.
