Hi,
I am just about to purchase a pair of Peavey Pro 15s (300Watts RMS / 600 Watts ) with Peavey Pro-Subs (300 Watts RMS continuous, 600 Watts program, 1200 Watts peak, 4ohms). I also have an opportunity to buy a Crown XLS 402 (It's rated at 570W per channel at 2ohms, 400W per channel at 4ohms, and 260W per channel at 8ohms) at an attractive price, but I'm not certain that this amp will be sufficient to drive the full speaker set. Would this be a good match, or should I seek out a more powerful amp?
Kind Regards,
cbeattie

If you can pass on the XLS and get something else that is Class A/B, you would be happier. Those amps use the EXACT same PC boards as some Behringers and QSC RMXs. Those high-speed switching amps really need perfectly clean and regulated power to get full power out of them. They don't sound great on the bottom end either. They cannot recover fast enough for 1/8 note, 1/16 note, etc kicks. I have done some of those in a pinch for a cheap install and none of us were happy. If you can buy a used MacroTech, you would have something nice and beefy. If you can buy the newer Peavey CS line, which is basically a Crest design, you will come out ahead.
I respectfully have a question with regards to the thread and the reply from harecording . the qsc rmx1450 is an a/b amp . the next size up rmx and above are all class h amps . Is it possible that the lesser powered and lesser priced 1450 might moderately compete with the next size or two up , at least as far as low end production is concerned ? And if even remotely so what about finding a resonably priced 1450 and running it 4 ohm stereo , 450 watts a side , mains on one channel subs on the other , with the idea of picking up another one when it could be afforded and bridging each one 4 ohms giving you 1450 watts to each pair of speakers respectively ? This is asked with a bit of a preference for qsc which of course im not implying that you have . Although ill admit the 450 watts stereo is not ideal , the price of the used plx or macro tech amp is a big jump . Im at a bit of a crossroads with my pa systems amplification as well .
