I have the cables to connect the suggested devices.
As for the audio software well, that too I'm clueless. I'll go with the Roon Bridge as you've indicated, your rpi's are simple, so I'll have at that tonight.
Follow Ups:
Do you have Roon running on a computer?
Roon Bridge turns the Raspberry Pi into a Roon network streamer but it requires Roon to be running on a computer on your home network.
No Abe, I didn't get it running on the rpi last night. After reading your previous post, what are the suggested options for me to stream on this standalone rpi4. Something similar to the purpose of volumio but will work unlike the flawed volumio?
Another option would be to forget DietPi and install piCorePlayer pCP.
The Roon Bridge software that I run under DietPi on my Raspberry Pi streamers REQUIRES Roon Server to be running somewhere on the network. I run Roon Server on my Mac Mini or my Synology NAS. I can then stream whatever Roon Server handles (including local album rips, Tidal, Qobuz) to my Roon Bridge enabled Raspberry Pi's.
My Setup
Sweet flowchart Abe.
provides a clear picture.
thanks.
like I suggested the first time...."I'm going to go out on a limb and suggest piCorePlayer".....https://www.audioasylum.com/forums/pcaudio/messages/19/191942.html
Now that we've gone full circle.

Gotta start somewhere and we're onto plan B.
Thanks for the suggestion, again Jotaro.
I'll have at piCorePlayer over the weekend.
I'm going to go out on a limb and suggest piCorePlayer
And so the limb has not strayed from the path!
PiCorePlayer is a very good player, good interface, extremely stable (linux) and continuously updated. Free open source software. I donate to the project once a year but that is not necessary to install and use it.
If you want to stream as a 'Standalone' device ie without Roon, your best bet is to install LogitechMediaServer aka LYRION and Squeezelite. With that you will have a server and a client on one device.
type: dietpi-software in the xterm window, then browse software, click the space bar to select what you want to install then follow the prompts to install.
