I'm not Abe but will offer some thoughts if you may find them useful.
Your proposed MacMini M4 config is an excellent choice as a Roon server/endpoint and also as a general use computer for years to come. Running it headless is quite easy, very stable, and low-maintenance. Using an iPhone or iPad as a Roon controller is seamless. You are correct - you will need a monitor, mouse and keyboard for the initial setup, but after that it is unlikely that you will need those again.
Screen Share will work just fine with your MacBook Pro. If the battery is starting to swell, yes you should replace it ASAP. You don't say what model MB Pro you have, but for most models the battery replacement is not difficult. MB Air models are harder. But any competent tech can handle it. However if you want to use that as a reason to upgrade, all the better.
Sounds to me like you have a good plan going forward.
Enjoy the music.

Thanks for the confirmation. I know, the new MB Pro is a bit of a rationalization. Current one is a 2015 and, aside from the battery issue, it has a small 13" screen that got marred up by my very helpful daughters a few years ago using the moose screen cleaner they got me for Christmas, which damaged the retina screen. It's time, and that new 16" screen is glorious! I was a bit annoyed that Apple won't just replace the battery, but say they have to replace the keyboard and trackpad, about a $700 repair. I've watched the videos, and if I had feeling in my hands I might attempt it, but neuropathy has taken it's toll, better leave it to the pros since it's still a nice machine and I'd hate to just e-waste it.
Okay, well the 2015 MB Pros had a glued-in battery that is kind of a PITA to extract, so it's not that simple. But $700 is outrageous. I would expect more like $250-$300, including the replacement battery cost. But if the display screen also is damaged, it may be time to retire a computer that is almost ten years old. I appreciate and admire your reluctance to add to the e-waste fill. Maybe there is a recycling opportunity in your community. The bulging battery is a hazard that needs to be dealt with or properly disposed of.
Best of luck.

Yeah, the glue is why they just replace the case. There's a recall out for 2015 MB Pro's with a battery issue, but mine didn't make the date cut, it's an "early" 2015, not a "mid" 2015.
