I have computer based stationary system with 10TB disc filled with music with quite a library of Hi -res file. 3000 LP's, couple of thousands of Cds and 1000 sQft house. Pretty overwhelming
Follow Ups:
A hotspot provides WiFi access - which is supported by EVERY computer and phone found on the planet.
and very early SS based HD has just enough memory to support J. rivers version 15 I think :) I looked into upgrading the clunker but really have no need
the nature of your hard drives nor memory has anything do to with network access.
Lose out as you will. Solution costs about $15 at Amazon.
Somehow HD fills up with junk in no time (one day) after wifi adapter install. I would have to install a parallel HD in old stationary case which is not worth the effort at this time.
download free app called CCleaner, aka Crap Cleaner. I've used both Win and Mac versions for years. Clears all manner of programmer droppings one experiences on a daily basis. I run it daily and don't leave any cookies behind either.Click here for download. Don't need the fee based one. I'll be happy to answer any questions you might have as it is a versatile tool.
I wouldn't run a PC without it.

Why does the CCleaner Performance Optimizer tell me I have a number of programs slowing down my computer yet I can't find anything in the Windows Task Manager that indicates they are running?
running under MacOS/Parallels and found one such program. When I dug into the details it provides, what it revealed were the services it was running. A different kind of consumer for CPU and memory resources.
Thanks, I missed the fact that one could click on an entry and see more details. The CCleaner startup tool does not show them as startup items which to this lay person seems odd.
However, I do see them listed as running if I use the PowerShell Get-Service command.
Is CCleaner akin to having a nanny change the kid's diaper?
;-)
I've used it on PCs which need a tremendous and ongoing amount of de-crapifying but I haven't tried it on the Mac.
but I haven't tried it on the Mac.
MacOS and its applications leave lots of unnecessary files behind. Includes useful duplicate file finder tool, photo analyzer and allows quick control of startup tasks.
Naturally, I also use a different version on the Mac for the virtual Win10 environment. :)
I definitely used CCleaner on new PCs because they come bloated with unwanted 3rd-party crapware - and even unnecessary crapware from the PC maker - which isn't an issue with Macs.I don't find myself installing then removing Mac Apps very often and even though deleting an App will leave remnants behind, I know where they live so I can remove them from the command line if I feel the need.
Still a useful tool IMHO.

but you're missing the point. This isn't (just) about installation files.Activity from today :

I don't really find it necessary on my Macs. I did find it useful on my Windows PCs.
Using your example from above:
- Freeing up 220MB (or a few GB) from my 1TB SSD isn't a big deal to me.
- A few log files are not worth deleting. In fact, log files are handy IF there's ever a need for troubleshooting.
- My Trash is scheduled to empty itself automatically.
- I clear Cookies and Web cache in my browser when I feel the need. BUT they can also be set to automatically clear themselves.
- RE: "Some files require administrator rights to remove"
In the rare case that I need to dig deep to remove something I HAVE administrator rights via sudo in the terminal window command line.
Sure, CCleaner is a useful tool for some folks and highly recommended but not needed here.

The silent comp was purportedly built for audio use in 2015 and came to me with J rivers installed. I installed fast USB update through the DAc (Antelope Zodiac Gold ) and called it a day. If that cleaner will work I won't have to mess with it and can stream all sorts of things :)
Fwiw you might find that an internet connection is not a positive for sq...-
Cut to razor sounding violins
I have low expectations and truth to be told I'm going to listen to stuff I would never pay for which has a sentimental value which only now I'm beginning to appreciate.
