How is that going to get the signal into the computer? What am I missing? OP didn't say the computer has a digital in and this just outputs optical and coax.

offer optical input via the headphone jack. If not, there are converter boxes.
Weird. I can't recall seeing that on my last laptop, must have missed it. But the OP never mentions laptops. His issue is lacking a PCI connector on his current pc and he needs a PCI-E adapter or a new card. Not sure he has an optical in so USB is probably the best option. Is there an optical to usb converter?

Most laptops and desktop PC's do not have Optical-In (a few have Optical-Out via combo 3.5mm jack). All personal computers in the past 25 years or so have USB. Best to go with an ADC converter device that outputs directly to USB vs having to kludge another converter into the chain. Totally unnecessary if you choose USB to begin with.
See my post to the OP.

the Parasound you mentioned is available now for $150!
Previous HP work laptops had the combo jack. The optical part is most certainly an input device for microphones but just learned is mono only. So that would not be acceptable.
The ZPhono is a great suggestion especially at the current price.
The zPhono is not the same as the zPhono USB. Their product naming can be a little confusing unless you dig deeper. The zPhono is just a phono preamp with no controls on the front. The zPhono USB is a phono preamp, line level preamp, with internal ADC and USB output (to the computer). Plus it has various controls on the front panel. Still, a bargain at $250 for an all-in-one ADC solution for digitizing vinyl.zPhono

All depends upon his budget.
Not really a budget issue. One product will digitize vinyl. The other will not.
was the OP's objective which he never seemed to state. Especially for vinyl not worthy of the playing on his system.
