In Reply to: RE: Raspberry Pi Model 5 Vs. Model 4 ..... My Perspective .......... posted by Axiom05 on July 05, 2024 at 06:51:10
Yes, I just took the uSD card from the Rpi #4 and moved it to the #5 and it booted right up. There was an update for LMS that I applied right after the boot and it worked just fine.
I have not done a re-scan of my Library yet. Mine is 1.5 TB and takes quite awhile, with the additions that PiCorePlayer has added (Like Qobuz links etc.)... I rarely add to my library anymore, so this is not of much interest to me... But I'll give it a try and see what happens. The library scan used to take minutes, but lately it has taken about 45 minutes as the developers have added a ton of stuff. I think they are headed in the direction of Roon with a lot more info on the Music.
Follow Ups:
Thanks for the info on the uSD. I have not installed any of the new plugins as I'm not interested in what they provide (hated Roon for that reason as well). At this point I only listen to my local files, no need to waste your time doing the rescan since it sounds like it won't be relevant to my use case. Thanks, again.
FWIW, rescan of the library by Roon takes about 90 seconds. Library is around 82k tracks; 1.9 TB; continually growing. It's stored on a Synology NAS. Roon server runs on a dedicated 2012 Mac Mini i7.
We share the library as a family of adventurous music lovers. Everyone dumps their discoveries into the shared library, whether ripped, downloaded, linked from Qobuz or whatever, so we can all access everything. It's a big mess, but Roon constantly watches the library folder, updates added files within a few minutes, and generally keeps things organized. Anyone can force a rescan by Roon for nearly instant access.
It's really cool and enlightening to see what others in the family are listening to. I've learned about a lot of interesting new music that way. Music and good sound are important to all of us, so it brings us together in many ways.
. . . in theory, practice and theory are the same; in practice, they are different . . .
When I was talking about a 'Library Scan' for LMS, it was a complete Clear and Rebuild. If I was only doing changes it would also take a couple minutes at most. Mine is also on a Synology NAS.When I did set up Roon on my system, to build the Roon Core Library took a few hours at least. I tried it out a few times.

What Roon plug-ins?
The LMS plugins to make LMS more Roon-ish.
Love Roon! Many do, some don't. To each their own.
I just did a re-scan and it only took 35 Minutes. Which is a lot faster than with the Rpi#4.... I'll do another re-scan next year ;-)
OK, thanks.
