A powered USB Hub will likely do the job too but the Hub needs to be externally powered with its own power supply.
Of course none of this matters if:
- The USB port on the streamer supplies sufficient power. Not all do.
- Your 2.5" HDD is efficient and draws very little power. Some draw more power.
