Not what I base my software decisions on in the least. And I think this statement is highly inaccurate and an exaggeration:"on life support ancient open source"
The developers of PcP respond on a daily basis to requests from users. And I have been one of them and they have responded to my requests. Nothing lasts forever, and if the time comes where PcP needs to be re-written in something other than PERL, I have no doubt that will be done.
I tried a WIIM out and while it is a easy install, it does not have the features that I use on a daily basis. We are all free to select the O/S that we prefer. WIIM certainly has its place, but it just cannot do what I want to do.
If anyone has trouble with configuring PcP, I can understand that and I have offered to help whoever needs it. I've tried pretty much all the inexpensive streamers and other software, as I am not wedded to any of them. What I don't understand is the need to diss PcP for some individuals.
There are plenty of Banking, Insurance and other Financial Systems still utilizing Cobol. But I certainly don't select my Financial Institutions based on the Programming Languages, that their systems may be running on, either.

You make some valid points and you're right about nothing lasting forever. Not even commercial software. However, there are challenges associated with maintaining legacy systems, such as the time-consuming and overwhelming process of migrating from an outdated version of PERL to even the latest PERL let alone modern programming languages. The LMS team were asked long ago if they will be porting to the latest PERL and the answer was basically that it was way too much work. As such, other platforms that have been updated [like Synology NAS DSM] will no longer natively support LMS.
So long as there's an LMS team around I'm sure they will do their best to keep it alive. I wonder how many developers actually contribute to supporting LMS and how old are they? If there's just a couple old guys doing 90% of the work you have to wonder how long that will last. We may both be dead by then too so maybe it doesn't matter.
I asked about the development team. I believe that they are much younger than us. After reading this, I admire them, more than I used to.
"As already stated we are a group of people working more or less on pCP.
pCP started out a long time ago by Steen who hacked a few simple scripts together in order to use piCore as a platform for squeezelite and to make the installation easier. I'm not in anyway familiar with coding and I'm working as a doctor at a hospital. Then Greg offered his help, and the pCP web-pages was developed and the scripts were improved. Paul started helping pCP development and one his first contributions was the LMS-update script used in pCP, allowing us to install and update LMS from inside pCP. But now Paul has really taken pCP to a new level of complexity and continues to improve the underlying code. Ralphy has helped with pCP from time to time, especially with integration of Jivelite and Squezelite in pCP. Micheal is also supporting pCP in many ways.
In the last few years pCP development has mainly been driven by Greg and Paul.
So we are located in the US, Canada, Australia, Denmark and Switzerland."
If I recall correctly, the team at piCorePlayer maintains a PayPal account for donations to support their efforts. Do you recall the address?

I think is't a couple of main guys and the "community". I love my SB Touch, especially since it was a gift from my wife and girls and they love that they got me something I absolutely love. I now use it via ROON and it works great. The only issue is ROON won't work unless I disable LMS from starting. I can't get it to stop starting automatically on my MB Pro. I've ticked the option to disable auto start, but that doesn't work. I look at the programs that do start automatically and it's not listed there. I am considering a new dedicated Mac Mini which would hopefully just use the ROON core to start LMS. That would kill two birds. I only use the SB Touch directly to eliminate the 10' USB cable attached to the computer. I'd keep the SB Touch as a clock and to keep up appearances for my girls. They'd never know I stopped using it for music!
