Won't something like Gizmo work? That's what I use to control JRiver on my laptop.

... I would check it out. But note I'm not really wanting to stream content to be played on my 'phone. I'm really just interested in controlling my main system from the 'phone.

I do not stream music to or from my phone, have nothing otherwise related (no music, or other software) on my phone. Only the Gizmo software which is used as a remote control for JRiver. I can operate JRiver from the laptop or remotely from my cell using Gizmo as a remote control.
Maybe it could be used for Foobar also, maybe not.
But I'll investigate further.
