Did engineering missteps with their Katana DAC put them out of business? It had TONS of problems and was pulled from their product line. Just speculation on my part but the financial impact had to be significant.
On the other hand there are posts going back to 2019 complaining that Allo has been unresponsive to customer inquiries. I see the same even more recent complaints in 2023.
So are they asleep at the wheel or truly out of business?
Follow Ups:
I've moved on to Pi2designs.
Michael Kelly in Rhode Island is still cranking out decent S/PDIF/AES/I2S 'hats' for Pi3 and Pi4.
Have no idea how long he will last what with uncertainty in the supply chains.
They sound better to my ears than Pi4 USB out on every DAC I own (and I own WAY too many).
First they came for the dumb-asses
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a dumb-ass
I would guess that the Rpi Model #4 with improved USB had a lot to do with it. I was buying Allo Products, until the Rpi Model #4 came out. I had no use for Allo Hats or 'USB Bridges'. I just run the Stock Rpi #4 with USB out. I still like their Cases, but they are getting hard to find now.
.
The improved USB output pretty much obviated the need for a HAT.
The RPi4 remains a phenomenal bargain considering I spent more for the case + starquad DC cord than the board itself!
The 2017 3B/DigiOne still provides excellent service in the garage system because the old Yamaha AVR doesn't support USB input.
