I had read that before I bought and it doesn't appear to have issues with the supplied cable outside of the cell phone issue and its not the only dac or amp that manages to pick up cell phones.

When I use the camera adapter and a usb-a to usb-c cable it works flawlessly. And unlike some of the reviews it worked fine with my windows PC, so its probably unlikely. I can check in with tech support and see about the cables, just figured this might be faster with all the usb experts here.

  My guess is you need more power for the Zeo than your phone can provide on its own. With the camera adapter you can plug power in while it is working. And even without powering the adapter the circuitry has the phone provide it but may not be able to provide USB 3 speeds. There is also the source vs. device issue. A straight cable connecting two devices will not work but the adapter is the bridge.
