There are components called Digital Audio Players (DAP) that will play digital files directly from a USB hard drive or flash drive in addition to streaming from the web. I've been using FiiO DAPs for several years. Currently, the FiiO M17 DAP is my solution for removing the computer from my audio system. The M17 is the most expensive FiiO DAP priced at $1800, but there are others priced as low as $500.
Follow Ups:
When I ultimately retire to the Philippines, a FIIO "all to DSD" DAP is definitely in the plan - maybe as soon as next year.
But until then I am on a strict budget unless I tap the 401K. And if anything could tempt me to do that it would be a FIIO M17...
I really love my FiiO M17. I think it's an excellent sounding digital player -- the best sounding DAC/player I've ever owned. I'm sure you'll really like it when you finally buy one.
Happy listening!
