About 7tb
I did have a couple RPI4 devices up and running with various software streaming solutions.
There were a few issues:
0:Dealing with the LMS/Squeezelite web site was a regular hassle when changing players is a huge annoyance.
1: not enougn power for the connected USB drives (adding powered USB requires another hassle which I don't want).
2: occasional playback lag due to either USB playback or #1, or both
3: a bit more complicated to get all setup than I liked using squeezelite and LMS. I never did get multi-room working...
4: network throughput to DNLA server on the main computer was unreliable. Laggy, intermittent, etc.
I should probably just get a mini-pc.
My main motivation is to significantly cut energy use. My main PC is a
custom built gaming machine and the lights in the neighborhood dim when I power it up. I am thinking to get the smallest possible PC that will support a 7TB SATA drive.
Overall I just found the RPIs to be underpowered (current and processor) and difficult to setup for multi-room, and not capable of supporting a SATA connected drive.

I appreciate the offer, thank you kindly. I have 2+ years using the RPIs for streaming and I am ready to try a simpler solution.
That's one thing to say for the WIIM mini, incredibly simple to setup vs. the PICorePlayer. Have to see if multi-rrom is also easy.

For sure it is easier to set up. It's lack of features that I use everyday with PiCorePlayer is the problem.. Like what you are trying to do now.
