I have owned a T8-LN for going on 20 years and it has been rock solid reliable.
The only problem I had with it in all that time was after a relocation. I think I jostled one of the power tubes loose during the move and when I powered it up at the new location, one EL-509 went nova.
I replaced the tube (I collected a couple dozen spares over the years), a fuse, four large capacitors with Nichicons, and all eight of the 509s anode plate caps with new ceramic versions.
Back in service, but I don't use it much now that I am in Vegas where the temps are above 90f 3/4 of the year and above 100f 1/2 the year.
Even the Musical Fidelity Class A is too hot to run here. Last summer I was actually putting damp rag on the top of the case of that amp with a fan blowing on it!
Follow Ups:
For some reason, my NYAL OTL3 amps don't seem to run all that hot.
Of course, it is pretty cool here in Berkeley, but I do think these amps are pretty cool.
Bruce built the T8 into a relatively large chassis so plenty of room for the tubes to breathe.
But those 8 EL-509s are warm, especially in the desert heat here in Sin City.
I will be selling the amp after I have a look inside and make sure all the caps are good and after I test and document the 2 or 3 dozen EL-509s I have in reserve. They are the old version that have anode caps and new of that type are unobtanium.
