Hello out there.
What is the story of 6AS7G "Coke Bottle"?
I know RCA manufactured a lot of those, but where there others in US?
Is there some kind of date code on them?
I have seen some with white- and some with red writings on the base, is the white older or...?
Regards from Denmark
The picture is of my Headphone amp OTL based on the 6AS7G. She's a beauty...
Follow Ups:
The tube was made in the US by RCA and the Chatham-labeled tubes seem to be the same thing. Westinghouse made their own version as did Sylvania. There was a Tung-Sol variety too- that had better specs (better linearity) than the RCA. For that matter, the Westinghouse and Sylvania seem to be more linear too.
Western Electric made a version of the tube called the 421A, and TungSol had a variant called the 5998 that was very similar...
Thanks Ralph.
But the 421A and 5998, are they interchangeable to the 6AS7G?
I didn't think they where.
Regards from Denmark,
Mogens
Both are varients, with slightly different mu, linearity and plate resistance. But they all work. In an OTL for example, you would want to make sure that you use all of one type. There might be other considerations (bias point is an obvious one and the cathode current limiting resistor another) but you could make it happen.
There are other variants but the WE and TungSol seem to me the most notable.
