I listened to several tracks from this new 5-CD set on Qobuz last night, through my living room TV system (Raspberry Pi 4, NuForce DDA-120, Polk R300's). I wasn't in a particularly musical mood but from the first track I heard, that changed rather quickly. The recordings portray Joni's voice superbly, most of the ones I listened to were simply her voice and guitar. They allowed all the nuances of her voice to be heard clearly without a lot of accompaniment by other instruments. I can't wait to listen to these on my main system.
I'm reminded of a memory from high school days in Hawaii, 1973 or 1974. A photographer friend was assigned to cover a Joni Mitchell concert. The next day she said she hadn't taken a single picture - she was so mesmerized by hearing Joni's voice that she forgot to take any pictures!

I enjoyed the earlier CD's but this one had me.
Since I spent summers with relatives on Oahu, in the late-80s, I took summer school classes at Punahou. Now, my younger relatives go there, Iolani, Maryknoll, Hawaii Baptist, and various public schools.
First 2 years at Irmo HS (S. Carolina), last two years at Kailua HS (Hawaii), graduated in 1974.
However, they have just entered 4th and 6th grade, so they have some time.
Although after you graduated, my relatives would come down the coast from that side, and hit Lanikai, Bellows, and Sea Life Park. As a small child in the mid-to-late 70's, I'd hear "Waimanalo Blues," a protest song about development taking over the lands.
In the mid-80s at Punahou summer school, we had field trips to Kailua Beach. Either by snorkeling or on bodyboards, the class swam out to Flat Island.
At the time, Joni Mitchell was working on a new album, Dog Eat Dog , so her material really wasn't being played on MTV or FM radio.
