I love Tommy Emmanuel. I've seen him twice, he's great.
But really, do I need to say that there is no "best?"
Is he better than Richard Thompson? No. He's different.
Better than McLaughlin? No. Different.
Ask Tommy, he'll tell you the same.

and there may be some guitarist hiding out there somewhere who is better.
But I don't think so. Emmanuel, Art Tatum, Martha Argerich, Charlie
Parker, and just a very few others have such a complete command of their
respective instruments that I feel justified in saying they are the best.
Which is not to say I don't like other practitioners of various
instruments, because I do. And I will be quite happy to be proved wrong
in my assessment. All I require is some aural proof.

Roy Clark could play nearly anything as well ... and did
was he the best? no
there's only one Jeff Beck! is he the best? of course not
Sabicas was a dazzling gypsy - flamenco stylist ... the best?
in that genre quite possibly to my ears but now we have 'taste' in the mix
indeed, the list could go on & on with the same answer
oddly enough it does and has since this will keep coming up forever

nice! indeed, IMO the measure of musicianship is the ability to connect with the listener and communicate the essence of the song or instrumental
that goes for any scale they're playing in except the catatonic
which, not to brag, I have mastered!
it's perfect for a lullaby
be zzzzz,
