But I do walk my speakers regularly. Not easy with those outrigger spikes.

My speaker cabinets (Utah Coaxial) are sitting on hvac isolation pads, my house is a "manufactured home", things really bounce around, Spiked cabinets seemed to shake the whole house, and sounded "mushy".
To couple or decouple is the question......

  I have been pondering a pair of zigma-hornets with small granite surface plates as bases from harbor freight, for the same reason.

  My Coincident speakers are 48" high and only 8" wide which makes them an accident waiting to happen with large dogs roaming around the house. Outriggers and spikes are a necessity especially on carpet.
  
  One of my previous German Shepherds knocked over a Von Schwiegert VR4, launching the upper midrange/tweeter module into the fireplace. oops

    The trick, as I discovered at CES in 2005 when I caught a 6' tall Golden Sound speaker just before it was about to exist the room through the large glass sliding door, is to mount the speaker on a large 2' by 2' board, then place the cones under the board. It's all about center of gravity.

      This is a rare photo I took of my system some time ago. I'm not sure why I even took the picture. Perhaps to figure out why the flash on my camera wasn't working?
      
      But this is where a Coincident speaker is now sitting and where the Von Scheikert VR4jr was siting when it got toppled by the pooch. I made the mistake of raising the shade next to the equipment stand just high enough to open the window for a bit of fresh air. Which allowed poochie to see and hear the postman coming up the front walk. And you can guess the rest. The Von Schweikert had to be sacrificed to save the planet from the mailman. I never raised that shade again.
      
      I thought about wood platforms, but the outriggers do add about 4" to the overall width of the speaker. I'm not sure. The new pup likes to hide his toys in that corner. Get rid of the dog?

        I'm getting too old for Marmaduke size German Shepherds with no table manners. This one belongs on a farm.
