Westies are Huge Pompous things.. More about 'lookit Me' than anything else. Buy a pair to impress /intimidate your Friends ?
Canterbury GRF Vintage model had the Good Alnico with pepperpot drivers. BUT had a Low performing Pretend Horn enclosure design. A waste of their drivers IMO. Care re enclosure types, as Simple Bass reflex or similarly simple boxes work V well. As Tannoys need little help from their enclosures to output, feel it in yer belly bass.
Tannoy Alnico/pepperpot drivers DO deserve Very good electronics, as they reveal even the most subtle of electronic topologies.. Good or Bad :-)After 50 ! yrs of fiddling I've found Firstwatt amplifications to be the best sounds I've yet heard from MY Golds.
Dynamics / presence with a feel it in your fundamental orifice Bass impact and crystaline highs.
Sound staging? My wee grandaughters often run into the next room looking for the instruments they perceive as playing in there.. 'nuff said.
As above prices are ALL over the map from Expensive to ludicrous / are you Joking! pricings.Tread lightly. As not only do you need to select the 'best' Tannoy drivers (not all are equal) and worth using on them electronics. Ying and yang

Tannoy 385 efficiency
This is a copy of my recent post. Perhaps you could answer my question?
"These are in commercial Lockwood bass-reflex cabinets. These were popular as studio monitors in the UK in the 70s and 80s. Tannoy re-engineered the hpd 385 with a foam surround, more suitable for higher output (rock) and rated at 85 watts...
Although rated as 92 dB efficient, these were generally used with 60 watt ss amps with good damping factor. At one time I had a Dared VP20 20 watt tube amp on them, but the bass re-emerged when I went to a 150 watt class D amp, which I am still using (TACT)
Considering that I listen to Mahler and other big symphonic music in a 'live' 2500 sq ft loft, would I be happy driving them with an Audio Note OTO SE EL84 single ended amp nominally 9 watts? Would I lose my bass again?"
westminister -- big spacious sofa-sound. not really a horn presentation. lacks dynamic punch compared to other horn speakers. not sure why. best on big classical symphonies. needs a big room.
canterbury - have not heard but its a box speaker. so different. more audiophile and will have a more 'precise' sound which might be considered more artificial .
vintage tannoys speakers were usually sweeter sound at the cost of challenges at both frequency ends.
tannoy sound -- typically beloved by tannoy fans and have a cult following. others outside the tannoy circle usually find prices ridiculous and sound so-so.
