The Eminence unit that some of you seem thrilled with, is a far cry from a suitable replacement.

That's not even close to the E 145, primarily due to the much higher Qes and much lower Vas. Not that that's a bad thing, it isn't, but still...It is close to the Eminence Kappalite 3015LF, which I haven't mentioned before, because it is a subwoofer. So is this B&C. With his stated 80Hz low frequency limit a subwoofer isn't what he wants.

  Let's see. The B&C Fs=35, the E-145 Fs=35. The B&C Qe=.28, the E145= .26
  But, yes, you are right, there is quite a bit of difference in the Vas.
  The Kappa Lite has an Fs of 47, a Qe of .36 and a Vas of 5.92
  JBL Fs=35/a Qe of .26 (amazing,ah?)
  B&C Fs=35/a Qe of .28, or .30 depending where you look
  The JBl has a Vas of whopping 9.7
  The B&C has a Vas of a mere 3.8
  Let's consider EBP (which is actually a quotient)
  JBL= 134
  B&C= 116
  Kappa= 125
  The B&C is a higher quality driver than the Kappa Lite. Not that I have anything against Eminence, as I have used some of their drivers in my system(s) for almost 30 years.
  Numbers are a nice guide, but will not necessarily tell the final outcome in terms of sound quality. JBl is pretty hard to beat. Having said that, there are modern offerings from Beyma, Faital Pro, and B&C that are quite nice.
  You know, we have not heard much from the OP, in a while. I do think this is now a better discussion than before, when it went off the rails with personal attacks. This is a fun hobby; especially if it stays that way.

    OP is still here. I have organised to borrow a few driver and do some listening. Doing a mock up of the top section to achieve physical time alignment and correct passive crossover if I choose to not use DSP. Thanx to all for a good discussion.

    I have owned, measured and listened to countless 15" woofers in Bass reflex and horn loaded cabinets.
    Eminence is as good as any of the OLD JBL and EV offerings and when you consider PRICE, they beat them all on price/performance ratios. It's not just the T/S parameters.
    You forgot to mention Faital Pro and a few others, but I'm a B&C fan as well.
    You just use whatever your can afford for you, new build or replacement. No matter what, the SCIENCE trumps the Opinions.
