Alnico and field coils had a degree of natural "shorting ring" properties combined with older cone manufacturing make some nice sounding devices.

You can get all this with modern magnets from Audio Elegance 15" drivers, for still way fewer dollars thatn $1,500 for a frikkin' single driver with tax and shipping included, which is the Great Altec pricing bs.

  True, I've used an AE TD15S for years which falls short of 94db but has mid 20s to 700 hz range in room. No need for subwoofer. Good for A mid 80s studio monitor type of design.
