Thanks for all the great suggestions! I guess by 'relatively cheap' I was thinking under $500. That being said, becasue I'm such a novice, I'm really just feeling my way around how much it costs to get a horn setup. The cheaper the better. Don't care what they look like or how big they are. I guess, more than low price I looking for high value, i.e., if I can build something for much cheaper than I can buy it new/used, then I'll be happy. This 'Flat Pak Frugel Horn' looks like a great option.
It is looking like the BD-Design Oris FLH kit is probably out of my price range (especially if you consider shipping it from Holland to California), but I can't tell right now becasue the website looks to be partially under construction. The only reason I wanted a Oris FLH was becasue the 'looked cool' but I really have no idea how much better they would sound than something like the Flat Pak?
thanks again,
lee

You can do it, but it's a tight budget.
Bass - keep it simple: 12" or 15" bass guitar speaker (or similar).
Mids (300 to 6000Hz) - small Fostex in conical front horn (eg check the archives for the terms "Fostex" + "Conical" author "Greg B")
Highs - piezos. Again, check the archives for how to optimise them.
I bought a single channel Altec A5 rig for $500 recently.
If you want two speakers, I'd look into Altec Model 14 or something like that.
Sometimes you find Klipschorns for amazing prices, or a Cornwall.
