Model Nineteen is IMO the best sounding Altec. Deeper bass and more extended highs than earlier efforts.Consider 604 and 605 Duplexes, imaging champs. With proper enclosures and compensated crossvers they'll do it all. I go back and forth between my Nineteens and my 605s.
Other nice Altecs were the Valencias, Flamencos, Iconics, Malibus, Carmels----all used a 15" woofer or dual 12s and a compression driver horn treble.

OK, I'm shopping on ebay and other web sites, not much luck yet. perhaps I'll get lucky at a garage sale, but what is a realistic plan to find a deal?
.
I luckily found my Model 19s locally on Craig's list.
Shipping these beasts was out of the question for me. But I checked Ebay for years for prices and such.

Difficult. I found two of my sets on ebay, one a trade from a friend and another by word of mouth.
butsuch big amps and such a small room.
