Hi, I'm wondering about buying myself a pair of Model 8's. I have a pair of Focal Chorus 826V from before and a stack of amplifiers/recievers.. So I'm wondering, is the Model 8 worthy of being in my set-up, or perhaps just for a little bit of variation?
Of amplifiers and recievers, I've got: Pioneer QX-8000A, Marantz Model 2225L, Rotel RB980BX, Tandberg TA 300M, &O Beomaster 3000, ASA Stereomaster 3199, Tandberg Huldra 10, Sansui QS-500, Sansui 350A.. One of those should match I'd think?
Thoughts, and points of view's will be appreciated.. Perhaps if someone can tell me how Altec Lansing Model 8 sounds? warm, neutral, wide, etc..
Follow Ups:
Anyone no what vintage the 8s are ? The 9s have to be at least 30 years old . They were great in there day .
I had a pair of these when they were new. they produced a very clear and clean sound, at all volumes.
No they did not go thump thump like a klipschorn speaker, but then they did not cost over a grad each, either
I put these at the end of an L shaped room with terrazzo floors and plaster walls, and it was like being front row center in the best acoustical auditorium for a live concert.
Greets!
Model 8? don't recall it, got any details?

http://www.lansingheritage.org/html/altec/specs/home-speakers/model-4-6-8.htmhere's some info on it.. I don't really know much about Altec Lansing speakers, or any other vintage speakers for that matter so I'm wondering if it's worthy of having in my system (yes, I know I'm repeating myself).. I've never had the chance to listen to something like it..
Will this speaker perhaps be a little "too much" for a 10m2 room? (I might be able to place it in a larger room though)
The older version of the M8 was horrible in the midrange, and had no real high end. At least the shown version with the Motorola piezo tweeter has some high end, although I can't say the midrange is any better. The foam edge on the woofers will be shot (of course).
I wouldn't even consider them.
hmm.. it's been resurrounded.. I will listen to it before an eventual purchase of course..
OK, now I remember, thanks. Obviously, I don't have any experience with these, but there was some discussion about them awhile back on the Altec Forum IIRC: http://www.hostboard.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi/ubb/forum/f/3729
Anyway, from just looking at these, they should be OK for your room:

but will they be any competition to my Focal loudspeakers? 'cause I don't really see the point if they are bad in comparison, but then I've never heard Altec so I might give it a shot anyways.. we're talking about 250$ (with todays course) for them, so it ain't such a big deal anyways..
Don't have a clue since I've auditioned neither, but having preferred Altec components over any mainstream consumer gear I've auditioned for the last ~45 yrs, odds are I would prefer the Model 8 overall in a small room due to its superior polar response.
As always though, YMMV.

Yeah.. I'll probably buy them.. what's "YMMV"?
Your Mileage May Vary. ;^)

Ah.. As said, I'll probably go buy the pair. It's no more than 20 minutes to drive so.. If they do sound okey (gotta try before buy), then I'll come back with a comparison with Focal 826V.. :)
Greets!
Understood, they should theoretically sound quite a bit different to the typical consumer HIFI 'sound' that the Focal epitomizes, so it will be interesting to read your opinion of them.
