Hi Rich
your speakers are big, so it's not easy a wife to accept them, but my design improoves their lookings quit a lot. Two opening wholes on the side pannel, and one up , would help to dissipate the heat of the field coil drivers. It would be better to add a supertweeter, as such a deep horn causes beaming and narrow dispertion in the high frequency range. The curved mid-bass horn has 2.4m length, and a mouth size of 84cm x 84cm, and the mid - high horn 84cm x 66cm. Height 170cm , deep 138cm, and wide 100cm. This is abought the right size ? All the curvings can be made with thin plywood layers. Material is inexpensive, but wood work is timeconsuming. The cabinets i am making now ( witch u can see on my blog )are smaller, and easier to be made, and do take already abought 6 weeks to be finished. These i've drawn now would need at least two persons to make them in a reasonable time.

Hi Angelo,
It looks like you have an eye for attractive horn design. The snail bass horn looks like it has possibilities... after all, it was the choice of the Western Electric engineers so many years ago. Bass horn folding is a tricky thing though, so you would have to build and test (and build and test, and...) to determine whether it would meet your goals.
We have been using conical (straight sided) rather than curved midrange horns, as they work best with our drivers. So far we have not used a separate tweeter, as our DS-1428 provides extended high frequency response and the coherence of a single source is hard to beat.
Heat buildup is really not much of an issue with most field coil drivers; ours have about the same dissipation as a small light bulb. We have kept our drivers exposed mostly because many people have commented that they like their looks and want to be able to see them.
Although we appreciate your efforts, we are happy with our horn designs for now. Perhaps you can incorporate some of the features from these sketches into one of your systems. I would recommend trying a version with the horns exposed rather than inside a cabinet; I've always enjoyed ogling those sexy horn curves myself.
hi Steve
sad you werent at CES this year. I would have loved to hear your systems.
